I got a very early start because I had to tie up some loose ends for work before our flight to Queenstown. By the time that was all taken care of, Jen was up and getting ready to go. After 'breakie' we took the shuttle to the airport, but wound up waiting around because it took us a lot less time than we expected to get there.
The flight was uneventful, and when we landed we were pleasantly surprised to find the weather much warmer than expected. There was still a chilly breeze, mind you, but it was a very nice day. We got our bags and met the shuttle driver who took us to pick up "Sue", our transportation while on south island. Actually, it took a day or so of getting to know her before Jen named her.

After getting the car, we checked into the lodge and had enough daylight left to walk around Queenstown for a bit. We also stopped in at the iSite to pick up the passes for our dinner experience (more later). The gardens were nice considering that a couple of weeks before, they had enough snowfall to reopen the ski slopes.

Jen found the Haka Pa Maori Village in her search for things to do and it sounded like fun. They pick you up in Queenstown and take you into their village to enjoy some Maori culture and a traditional Maori dinner. As you can see, the huts were very small. They weren't little tiny people, they just built
the smaller homes so they would be easier to heat in winter. After they welcomed us into the village, they performed a short dance and sang some traditional songs. Then off to the four-course Hangi meal. After dinner they taught us some of the songs and dances.
After dinner we returned to the lodge to get our things together for our visit to Milford Sound on Wednesday. We had to meet the coach bus early the next morning, so we didn't stay up too late.
